Why? It is an autobiography about an American girl in Germany during World War II. That time in history, in my opinion, is the most fascinating, but I also enjoy hearing her take on the events going on at that time.

What is your favorite movie?
Dirty Dancing
Why? I love the dancing, the love story, and the music.

Have you had any unique travel experiences that you feel have helped shape your way of thinking and/or the way you live your life?
When I was four, my parents and my sister and I went to England to visit my grandparents who were there on an exchange program. I went on my first horseback ride there, a pony, and since have been terrified to ride horses. I also swallowed a pence that my grandfather had given me and since that time I have been more hesitant as to what I put in my mouth.

Have you had any unique educational experiences? I have experienced quite a few bad teachers throughout the years but my sister is now a high school teacher and I through her, I have found the importance of education and the effect that good teachers have on young people’s lives.

Have you had any unique experiences with volunteer work? I’ve had good and bad experiences. Good in that I have a made a difference in a few girls’ lives and bad that I wasn’t able to soon enough save others. I have found that my volunteer work has been the greatest thing I have ever done, not only for me but also for those that I have helped.

If you were given enough funds to spend one year of your life to engage in any recreational, political, religious/spiritual, or other endeavor of particular importance to you, what would you choose to do?
I would build more community centers and programs for sexually abused girls and battered women. One program I recently have had more focus on is a center for gay youth. I believe more funding for more “safe places” for these kids would be a priority.
