What is your favorite book? White Oleander by Janet Fitch
Why? I love the journey of the main character, Astrid. She goes through a lot, being tossed from one foster home to another. You see her start out as a shy girl, living in her mother’s shadow but she emerges as a strong, independent young woman. Very empowering.

Have you had any unique travel experiences that you feel have helped shape your way of thinking and/or the way you live your life? Probably the most prominent would be a trip to Las Vegas in 2003. It was on this trip that I married my husband. Being married has taught me so much, including how to put other people and their feelings in front of my own, when needed.
Have you had any unique educational experiences? When I was a junior in high school, I dropped out. After 3 years, I decided it was time to finish and I went back to school. When I went to enroll, I was advised to take the GED test and be done with it. I had no interest in taking the easy way out this time so I insisted on returning. Despite their concerns, they put me back in school, right where I had left off. I worked hard and was able to study and test for 1-1/2 semesters in about 3 months. I walked away with my diploma!
Have you had any unique experiences with volunteer work? I wouldn’t say they are unique, but I have spent some time working in animal shelters. If most people could see what went on there… they would never buy an animal from a pet store again!
If you were given enough funds to spend one year of your life to engage in any recreational, political, religious/spiritual, or other endeavor of particular importance to you, what would you choose to do? I would spend that year traveling with my husband. We would go see where our ancestors came from and just enjoy experiencing new cultures. |
