Have you had any unique travel experiences that you feel have helped shape your way of thinking and/or the way you live your life?
When I traveled to Jamaica it really got to me how a lot of people live in tiny little shacks with barely anything at all yet they still have such an amazing outlook on life. Their good nature put a smile on my face.
Have you had any unique educational experiences? One field trip sticks out in my mind the most and that is the one my 8th grade class took to the Holocaust Museum. It was so surreal to walk around and see all of the artifacts and documents they have restored and saved throughout the ages. It is a shame that our ancestors had to suffer and endure that unforgettable time in our history. That museum is a reminder to all that we must not allow that to occur ever again. I remember walking through one of the actual train cars that they used to ship innocent human life into the concentration camps. It was gloomy and heartbreaking. You felt for them and you could sense a harsh presence.
Have you had any unique experiences with volunteer work? I used to visit nursing homes to spend time with the elderly. Their faces would light up when they were visited. I love the idea of having company over and sharing time with people. I always visited my grandparents and great aunt at home too and that made for some of the best memories. I really enjoyed talking with the elderly in the nursing homes and hearing their stories. They have the best stories about when they grew up. You just know that they have lived a fulfilling life. It always made me want to go back in time for a day to see what it was like being a kid in the 40s or 50s.
If you were given enough funds to spend one year of your life to engage in any recreational, political, religious/spiritual, or other endeavor of particular importance to you, what would you choose to do? I would love to join the Peace Corps. It would be such an adventure and a major life altering experience. I would love to help out all around the world in any way I can. It would be so fulfilling to bring happiness into other peoples’ lives. |
